How to use the Instagram grid maker
- 1
Choose a photo (JPG, PNG or WebP). It stays on your device.
- 2
Pick the grid, 3 × 1, 3 × 2 or 3 × 3, and the tile shape. 3:4 matches how the profile grid shows posts today.
- 3
Drag the photo, scroll or use the sliders to zoom and move it until the important parts sit where you want them. The dashed lines show the cuts.
- 4
Download the pieces one by one or press Download all (.zip). Each file is numbered in posting order.
- 5
Post them as separate posts, starting with number 1 and ending with the highest number. Number 1 is the bottom-right piece.
About this tool
Instagram puts your newest post at the top-left of your profile grid, three posts to a row. That means a picture split into tiles has to be posted backwards: the bottom-right tile first, the top-left tile last. This Instagram grid maker does the counting for you, so post 1 is always the one to upload first.
The profile grid now shows each post as a 3:4 portrait tile, not a square. Instagram made the switch in early 2025 and also accepts 3:4 photos at up to 1080 × 1440 pixels, so the default 3:4 tiles fill the grid exactly. Square tiles still work in the feed, but the profile grid trims their sides, so the joins will not line up as cleanly.
The puzzle only stays together if each row is complete. Post all the pieces in one go, and keep in mind that pinned posts appear at the start of your grid and shift what follows. Everything runs in your browser; the photo is never uploaded.

In what order do I post the grid pieces?
In number order, starting with 1. The tool numbers the pieces so that 1 is the bottom-right tile and the highest number is the top-left tile, because Instagram shows the newest post first, at the top-left of the grid.
What size should Instagram grid tiles be?
Use 3:4 tiles, 1080 × 1440 pixels, for the current profile grid, which shows posts as 3:4 portraits. Square 1080 × 1080 tiles are offered too if you want posts that look square in the feed, but the profile grid crops them at the sides.
Will the grid break when I post something new?
A new post moves every tile along by one, so the picture shifts. Post in groups of three to keep the rows intact, or post a new set of three tiles at a time.
Does this Instagram grid maker reduce the quality of my photo?
Each tile is saved as a high-quality JPG at full Instagram width. Very large photos, over about 16 megapixels, are scaled down before cutting so the browser can handle them; the tiles are still full size.
Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
No. The photo is opened, cut and saved by your browser on your own device. Nothing is sent to Postora or anyone else.
