LinkedIn post preview

Paste your post to see it as a feed card on a phone and on a computer, folded roughly where LinkedIn adds “…see more”. Check that your hook lands above the fold and that the post fits the 3,000-character limit before you publish.

Most carousels lose people on slide one, not slide five. We tested 40 covers last quarter. The ones that worked all did the same thing:…

Your opening line fits above “see more” on mobile and desktop.

The fold is an estimate: about 140 characters on mobile and 210 on desktop, or 3 lines, whichever comes first. LinkedIn may show a little more or less.

How to use the LinkedIn post preview

  1. 1

Paste your draft into the box. The preview updates as you type.

  2. 2

Switch between Mobile and Desktop to see how much of the post shows before “…see more”. Click “see more” in the preview to read the rest.

  3. 3

Read the warning under the card: if your opening line is cut off, shorten it or break the line after the first sentence.

  4. 4

Check the counters for characters, words, lines and hashtags, then copy the post and publish it on LinkedIn.

About this tool

In the feed, readers see only the first few lines of a post before “…see more”, so this LinkedIn post preview is built around the fold. It shows the visible part of your post, highlights when the hook runs past it, and counts what matters: characters against LinkedIn’s 3,000-character post limit, words, line breaks and hashtags.

The fold is an estimate. LinkedIn does not publish an exact figure, and where it cuts depends on line breaks, the screen and the app version. The preview uses about 210 characters or three lines on desktop and about 140 characters on mobile, the cut-off people commonly report, so treat it as a guide and leave yourself a little room.

The card is a neutral sketch of a feed post, not a copy of LinkedIn’s design, and nothing you paste leaves your browser. For styled words and lists, try the LinkedIn text formatter.

Questions about the LinkedIn post preview

How many characters show before “see more” on LinkedIn?

LinkedIn does not publish a number. Commonly reported figures are around 210 characters on desktop and around 140 on mobile, and line breaks can fold the post sooner: a short post with several line breaks may fold after about three lines. This tool uses those figures, so its fold is an approximation.

Do blank lines count toward the fold?

Yes. A blank line takes up a line of the preview, so a hook spread over several short lines with gaps between them can be cut off sooner than its character count suggests. The preview counts blank lines as lines for that reason.

What is the character limit for a LinkedIn post?

LinkedIn Help puts the limit for a post at 3,000 characters. Spaces, line breaks, emoji and links all count. If you need more room, put the detail in a carousel or a document post and keep the text as the hook and summary.

Is this exactly how my post will look on LinkedIn?

Close, not exact. Fonts, line wrapping and the fold differ between the app, the website and different screen sizes, and LinkedIn changes its layout from time to time. Use the preview to catch a buried hook or a post that is too long, then check the live post once.

How many hashtags should I use?

There is no official number. Hashtags count toward your characters and take space near the end of the post, so a few relevant ones are usually enough. The counter shows how many you have so you can decide.
